Outreach
- When? From January 2025 until December 2025
- What? To help language teachers with a background in literary and linguistic studies, this project develops workshops and a webinar on comics as a medium, with attention for multimodality, publication format and implied audience. The corpus will provide them with a multilingual corpus of comics (Dutch, French, German, English, Spanish). Teachers can follow the workshop live or do the digital webinar (coming soon!).
Research
- Eva has defended her PhD “Building a Glocalised Serial for children” in September 2022, this doctoral dissertation discussed the transnational spread of comics, edutainment and commodification in early-twentieth century children’s comics magazines Corriere dei Piccoli (Italy) and TBO (Spain). For the occasion of her public defense, Eva turned her research into a PhD zine and a #PhDThread. (Learn here how to fold and cut a zine!) This project would not have been possible without the following people: PhD Acknowledgements
- In April 2021, Eva organized a Conference on Girlhood in Comics. Some of the papers presented there, came out in a volume she co-edited: Sugar, Spice, and the Not So Nice (Leuven University Press, 2023). Download the OA volume freely here. Find out about the editing process in a short interview here.
- Eva worked on children’s periodicals of the 1930s to 1960s from the Alain Van Passen Collection. She focused on how those periodicals demanded active rather than passive readers in DIY and game sections, and how they scripted their readers’ activities. One of the outcomes of this research was an exhibition at KIOSK (Ghent), click on the image below to get direct access to Eva’s no. 4 of Issue Zero.
